A Hilarious and Surprisingly Heartfelt Cop Flick

Since Bridesmaids, director Paul Feig got a very large thumbs up to female driven comedies. Which is great because they are hilarious. While I consider this to be worthy of Bridesmaids good, it has a LOT of violence throughout, which is expected for a cop flick, and it certainly makes it unique. An absolute hats off to Melissa McCarthy, who has proven her comedic brilliance through Bridesmaids, and now just verified it in the Heat. She has proven she is up for anything.

The film stars FBI agent Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) as a very intelligent, yet arrogant, who is very disliked by her coworkers. She lives alone with no boyfriend, or family in NY. She starts on a case centralized in Boston, about a very dangerous and powerful drug lord. She is sent to Boston to live there and investigate with the Boston Police Department. As Sarah gets settled in, she meets foul-mouthed and angry cop Mullens (Melissa McCarthy), who learns of the case as well. The two do not see eye to eye, and Ashburn tries to get her boss to get her off the case. He tells her that if she works with her, she will not only learn more about the area, she will have a chance to show she can do the new promotion the FBI is offering. Begrudgingly, she agrees to work with Mullens. The two have to set aside their differences and come together to stop a bigger force, and save each other in the process.

I cannot get over how hilarious this film is. While Sandra Bullock provides the funny-awkward laughs, Melissa MccCarthy provides the deep belly, laugh till it hurts laughs. And then, like Bridesmaids, it has the small sentimental and heartfelt at the end. All I can say is that I left the theater very touched, and with tears from laughing. I expect to see more female driven comedies from this one.
