The Conjuring Review
3.5/4 Stars
A Sincerely Creepy and Intelligent Fright Flick
I have stated before. I am not a fan of violence and gore. Luckily this film keeps it to a bare minimum. I was very surprised with this film. It avoided many horror clichés, and managed to use its time wisely without being boring or getting to the action too quick. Also, to me personally, I felt it was scary, but not to the point I peed myself. It was a mild kind of scary, and it kept your interest without frightening you away. Here's a little about the story:
A couple (Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston) with 5 girls, move into a huge, but old house. They are relieved they are going to start a new life and be happy. Not to long after they move in, strange events start occurring. Their realization point for them is when their daughters cry they saw something in their rooms. Starting to get desperate as more events happen, they contact the help of paranormal investigators (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson). They immediately notice many unpleasant things just upon arriving, and warn the family their house is plagued by demons. The investigators try their hardest to cleanse the house, but the spirits still linger. As they learn more about the house's history, they realize that history will repeat itself, and they have to save them before it's too late.
One thing I greatly admire about this film is the fact it actually uses emotion and messages throughout, unlike most modern horror movies. It shows how no matter what, love is the strongest force in the universe, and a family will remain together through it all. So, be expected to be scared, but not cover your eyes and stop watching it scared. With just enough intelligence and heart added to it, it goes down as one of the best horror movies to date.
