Pitch Perfect Review

A Fun and Funny Time at the Movies
So, at first glance you think, eh, a movie about college acapella singers, big whoop. Then you see the trailer and realize it is glee, crossed with Bridesmaids. After I realized some of my favorite actresses were in this (Rebel Wilson, Brittney Snow), and that this was a comedy, I was dying to go see it. I find out that it is probably funnier than I was expecting. Rebel Wilson steals absolutely every scene she is in because her character is big, bold, and very confident of herself. Also, a nice well done to Anna Kendrick, whose previous movies have been The Twilight Saga and also Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. She does a nice job of making us care about her throughout the movie and be seen as this lady DJ.
The story is set in college, where Beca (Anna Kendrick) is forced to attend by her father if she wants the option to later move to LA and fulfill her dream to work with music. As she is starting at the campus, she notices different clubs are scattered all around the grounds looking for new members. One group that she talks with is the Bellas, a girls only acapella group. When asked to audition, she declines and says she doesn't sing. But being a lover of music and DJ’ing she can actually sing pretty well, but that group didn’t seem to interest her. A few days later she is taking a shower in the school and singing, when one of the girls who asked her to audition, Chloe (Brittany Snow), catches her singing, and confronts her in the shower. Because of the awkwardness of Chloe standing in front of her nude, she sings a few notes with her to confirm she can indeed sing well. So, auditions come around and even though hers is not a typical one, she is accepted into the group, begrudgingly by Aubrey (Anna Camp), the group leader. Then comes in a whole slew of others accepted in, including Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson). The Bella's are at constant war with the rival all male acapella group, the Trebelmakers. Aubrey, in desperation to beat them, and to make up for ruining last year’s chance of winning the finals, she is willing to do just about anything to make sure they are "Pitch Perfect".
With a very talented cast of females (like Bridesmaids) is one of the absolute funniest female-driven comedies, if not just general comedies. The singing is great, the story is familiar but interesting, and filled with laugh out loud one-liners. This film just re-affirms that females can be just as funny, or even funnier than males in modern comedies.
