A Fast-Paced and Enjoyable Ride
This is seriously one of the best casts I think ever. I adore Isla Fisher and Melanie Laurant. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are just awesome in general. Dave Franco and Jesse Eisenberg are actors who are slowly gaining speed, Woody Harrelson is from Hunger Games, so enough said. And then Mark Ruffalo has always been good. And then, there's the very intriguing plotline.
The story starts off with the four magicians the story centers on. One, J. Daniels (Jesse Eisenberg) is a master with card tricks. Another, Henley (Isla Fisher), is a female Houdini. Another, Merritt (Woody Harrelson), is a hypnotist. The last, Jack (Dave Franco), is an illusionist/conman. The four are sent mysterious cards, telling them to come to an apartment room. They all meet each other and get into the empty apartment to discover plans for one of the greatest magic tricks ever done. A year later, they perform their first show, and supposedly have an audience member rob a bank. The FBI gets involved, mainly Dylan (Mark Ruffalo), and a French woman (Melanie Laurant) who is supposed to help him, which he doesn't want. As the magicians make their way to their last show, Dylan has to figure out what's going on, and also that the closer you look at something, the farther away you're actually seeing.
I personally, don't quite understand other critics reasoning for hating on this movie. I thought it was so much fun, clever, and had a great twist ending. I'll admit, this movie is a little flawed, largely because of the twist, but so what? The story just keeps you guessing and it's a thrill the whole time. I guess haters are going to hate. Oh well. I loved it.
