Man Of Steel Review
3/4 Stars
Rip Roaring and High Octane
With the recent comic book-superhero craze nowadays, it was only a matter of time before someone remade on the most iconic superheroes, Superman. I'm happy to report they did it right. I have nothing but great things to say about the two main leads, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. Great chemistry, great actors, just great. Also, it very much delivered on the action. The film starts out a little slow, and then makes it way to a super wave of explosions and fighting. Here's a little bit about the plot.
The planet Krypton is dying. Their entire civilization is doomed. With this in mind, Superman's (Kal's) parents had just had him (naturally, I might add). A difficult choice is made, and they are going to send their newborn son to Earth in hopes of a better life. A rebellious group has erupted, and kills Superman's father. His mother quickly sends him off to space before the planet explodes, with the key to their civilization. This rebellious group is caught, and exiled to dead space, and supposedly will die off eventually. Superman is found by a couple on a farm. They raise him as their own. As Superman ages, he experiences abnormal things (associated with his planet's civilization). He eventually begins to realize he has super human abilities. Louis Lane, a reporter, discovers his powers, but is forced to keep it secret. Many years pass and the rebellious group come from space, and are hunting Superman down for his key, and to stop him from hindering them taking over the world.
One thing that sets it apart from other new comic book adaptions, is it's sense of emotion. The film knew what it was doing it terms of keeping the audience to care for its characters. Then of course, as I mentioned, there are the explosions and fighting, which is all good too. All in all, it's a very welcome addition to the comic book adaptions.
